Installing and Configuring CygNet Excel Export

CygNet Excel Export must be installed and configured on a client machine prior to creating reports from historical values, current values, or current values by group.

Installing CygNet Excel Export on a Client Machine

Use the CygNet Client Installer to install CygNet Excel Export to ensure you are using the most up-to-date version. The application is stored in the Samples folder in the APPS. You also must activate Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and register the CxExport dlls.

To Install CygNet Excel Export

  1. Open the CygNet Client Installer (Start Menu > All Programs > CygNet > CygNet Client Installer). The CygNet Client Installer/Launcher dialog box will be displayed.
  2. Select the Blob Storage Service (this is in APPS if installing a CygNet client).
  3. If not already running as an administrator, select Run as administrator and confirm UAC prompting.
  4. Select Samples from the Blob Folder text box.
  5. In the text box Select CygNet Applications to Install, select CygNet Excel Export and click Install.
  6. If Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is not already installed, do so now.
  1. Open the Control Panel to change a program (Control Panel > Programs >Uninstall or change a program).
  2. Right click Microsoft Office and select Change.
  3. Select Add or Remove Features and click Continue.
  4. Click the plus sign next to Office Shared Features.
  5. Click the icon next to Visual Basic for Applications and select Installed on First Use from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click Continue.
  1. The two CxExport dlls, CxExport.dll (for x86) and CxExport64.dll (for x64) can be found in CygNet\Support\ and CygNet\Support64\ respectively, and both must be registered on the appropriate host. To register the driver, use regsvr32.exe (located in the Windows\System32 folder on a 32-bit operating system, or use Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe on a 64-bit operating system). Click here for information about Windows system folders or see CygNet Version Info utility.
  2. Once installed, launch CygNet Excel Export from CygNet Client Installer (or click Start > All Programs > CygNet > CygNet Excel Export or double-click the desktop shortcut).

Configuring the CygNet Excel Export

Configure Excel to use the appropriate ActiveX and Macro settings and set up a connection to the ARS. The CygNet Excel Export application uses macros. If you see a Security Warning when you open Excel stating that content has been disabled, you will need to enable macro security before you can proceed. Macro security must be enabled in Microsoft Excel when opening ExlRpt.xls or the report will not run. You will also need to enable macros so that reports can Auto Run without operator intervention.

To Configure ActiveX and Macros

  1. Launch CygNet Excel Export from CygNet Client Installer (or click Start > All Programs > CygNet > CygNet Excel Export or double-click the desktop shortcut).
  2. In the spreadsheet, select File > Options > Trust Center and click Trust Center Settings.
  1. Select ActiveX Settings from the left menu, clear the Safe mode check box, and select the Enable all controls… option.
  2. Select Macro Settings from the left menu, and select the Enable all macros... option.
  3. Click OK and restart Excel.
  1. Set up a connection to a CygNet ARS to communicate to your services using the CygNet Domain Connection utility.
  1. Open CygConn and click Add. The Add New Domain Details dialog box opens.
  2. Enter the domain for the ARS you want to communicate with in the Default Domain ID text box.
  3. Enter the IP address of the ARS in the Preferred ARS text box.
  4. Click OK.
  1. In the main CygConn window, select the domain setting you just created and click Set Default.
